Dr. Sharma graduated with Honors from The University of Texas at Austin and received his medical doctorate from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. His postdoctoral education includes completion of a surgical internship at Baylor College of Medicine and general surgery residency at Tufts University School of Medicine. He then pursued cardiothoracic surgical training at The University of Pittsburgh and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He subsequently completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery and cardiopulmonary transplantation at the Great Ormond Hospital for Children in London, England one Europe's leading congenital heart centers.
Dr. Sharma is the author of over 100 peer-review abstracts, journal articles, and book chapters. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and member of numerous professional societies. He has been named as one of the nation's top doctors by U.S. News in partnership with Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd.
Dr. Sharma's clinical interests are in complex neonatal and infant congenital heart defect repair and pediatric heart failure. His research focuses on clinical outcomes in congenital cardiac surgery and mechanical circulatory support of the failing heart.
In addition, he is involved in humanitarian efforts to provide congenital cardiac surgical care for children in under served areas.
