He grew up in Mexico City, Mexico, and received his medical degree from The National Autonomous University of Mexico - Faculty of Medicine. He completed internal medicine residency at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Rheumatology training was completed at The University of Chicago.
His clinical interests include rheumatoid arthritis, spondylarthritis, and inflammatory myopathies. He is a former member of the ACR committee on corporate relations; currently, he serves as Secretary and Treasurer for the Rheumatology Association of Nevada.
