Senegal earned a spot in Qatar 2022 in a penalty shootout, but will want to maintain a recent strong run of success that has already seen the country acknowledged as Africa’s monarchs.
After defeating Egypt once to win their first AFCON title in February, Aliou Cisse’s side did it again in the final round of African qualifying to secure a place in Qatar, albeit in a contentious match in which fans in the stadium used laser pointers to distract Egypt’s players during the penalty shootout.
That match featured another fight between two Liverpool talismans, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, and there is little doubt that the Senegalese hopes will be mainly pinned on the latter.
However, they have access to a number of other world-class players, notably Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
