Igor Sechin was born in Leningrad on September 7, 1960. He grew up in a working-class family.

Igor Sechin enrolled at Leningrad University in 1977. At the Faculty of Philology, A. Zhdanova. He got a certificate as a philologist, novelist, and French and Portuguese instructor at the completion of his schooling.
Sechin worked for the Tekhnoexport international trade organisation after serving in the army.
For the past ten years, Sechin has served as the CEO of Russia’s state-owned oil firm, a position he assumed after serving as Vladimir Putin’s Deputy Prime Minister.
