Joel David Moore, an American character actor and filmmaker, was born on September 25, 1977. Moore, who was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, attended college to study acting before moving to Los Angeles to seek a career in movies.
He had his first significant part in the 2004 comedy Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story as Owen Dittman. He then appeared in the comedies Grandma’s Boy (2006), Terry Zwigoff’s Art School Confidential (2006), and the independent slasher movie Hatchet (2006).
Matt Moore played Dr. Norm Spellman in James Cameron’s Avatar (2009). He reprised the role for the sequels, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and Avatar 3 (2024). His directorial debut was the thriller Spiral (2007), followed by the drama Youth in Oregon (2016).
