Lionel Scaloni parents: Meet Ángel Scaloni and Eulalia

Lionel Sebastián Scaloni, a professional football manager and former player from Argentina, was born on May 16, 1978.

He currently serves as the team’s head coach. He was a versatile player who could play either right back or right midfield.

He spent the majority of his professional career with Deportivo de La Corua in Spain, where he played 258 games and scored 15 goals in 12 seasons with three different teams in La Liga. He also played several years in Italy, with Lazio and Atalanta.

Scaloni represented Argentina seven times between 2003 and 2006, including a World Cup appearance in 2006. He later became a manager, most notably leading the national team to the 2021 Copa América, the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup title.

Scaloni started his career in the Argentine Primera División with local club Newell’s Old Boys and then moved on to Estudiantes de La Plata before making the 405 million peseta transfer to Spain’s Deportivo de La Corua in December 1997. Scaloni was born in the small town of Pujato in Santa Fe Province and is of Italian descent from Ascoli Piceno.
