De Vega was married to Paul Mercado, a former Meralco engineer, and entrepreneur with whom she had three daughters, one of them is Stephanie (Paneng), a former collegiate volleyball player for the DLSU Lady Spikers.

She has only one daughter and she is called Stephanie Mercado.
In February 2001, her four-year-old son John Michael died in a car accident. And in 2018, De Vega was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. In July 2022, her daughter Stephanie revealed that she underwent brain surgery but was “in critical condition”

She died at the age of 57. She was born to her parents Francisco De Vega her father and Mrs. De Vega her mother. She was born on December 26, 1964, in Meycauayan, Philippines. She passed away on August 10, 2022.
De Vega served as a councilor of her native Meycauayan town in Bulacan province. In early 2005, she was appointed a liaison officer of the Alliance of Coaches and Athletes of the Philippines with the Philippine Sports Commission.
In December 2005, De Vega went to Singapore after receiving three job offers from Singaporean private schools to handle athletics. She is now coaching young athletes in Singapore. Her most recent public appearance was as one of the flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.
