Robert Glasper parents: Meet Kim Yvette Glasper-Dobbs and Gerald Glasper
Robert was born to Kim Yvette Glasper-Dobbs and Gerald Glasper.
Glasper’s mother Kim Yvette Glasper, a renowned jazz and blues singer, was one of his earliest musical influences. Instead of leaving her son with babysitters, she brought him along on club dates.
At the East Wind Baptist Church, where Glasper had her first public performance, she served as the music director. He gave performances at Baptist, Catholic, and Seventh-day Adventist churches.
According to Glasper, he originally found his sound in church, where he discovered his unique method of hearing harmony and was motivated to fuse jazz harmonies with the traditional church and gospel harmonies.
